About this style...
The process of producing this type of icon has been developed by the Sisters of the Holy Monastery of St. John Chrysostomos and is not available anywhere else. It is extremely intricate as it must go through many stages before completion.
The paper print icon of choice is mounted on a wood plaque in two layers.
First, it is placed on a thinner piece of wood and cut out precisely around the main images or figures in the icon.
Next, that piece is mounted to a more ornate piece of wood with a chosen background to create a dimensional look to the icon.
Hand-done details are then completed. Details may include hand-painted lettering, floral embellishments, decorative borders and halos, etc.
Finally, the icon is finished with a high gloss resin for beauty, durability and protection.
This is an amazing process that produces a true work of art!
